Research Technician / Molecular Biologist (m/f/d)


Aufgaben

This position will require standard and advanced microbiology, molecular biology, and genetics techniques to support the genetic engineering priorities of the Department. Tasks will be project-specific and include cultivation of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, plasmid construction and cloning, CRISPR-based engineering, genetic manipulation of non-model organisms, and protocol development. You may also perform routine molecular biological assays such as PCR, DNA and RNA extractions, and next generation sequencing and library preparation. You will work under both S1 and S2 safety levels, in which you will be fully trained at the MPI. Your work will also include routine maintenance and organization of the laboratory and assisting with the maintenance and ordering of supplies. Your work will be part of various new and ongoing research projects in a fast-paced and diversified work environment. The position is full-time for a duration of 2 years.


Profil

Applicants should be (i) highly motivated with a strong work ethic, (ii) able to complete complex tasks independently, (iii) a team player, (iv) organized and good at time management, (v) eager to learn new techniques. At a minimum, applicants should have previous experience with standard techniques of molecular biology (e.g., pipetting, DNA and RNA extractions, PCR, gel electrophoresis) and with common office productivity programs (e.g., Microsoft Office). Experience in microbiology is also required and applicants should be proficient with routine cultivation methods and sterile technique. Previous experience with genetics is preferred. Applicants should hold a master's degree in microbiology, physiology, or a related field. The working language of the laboratory is English, so fluency in English is required
